New Jersey Motorsports Park, South Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council AFL-CIO Partner to Title South Jersey Building Trades 150
ARCA RE/MAX Series Event, September 11-13, To Carry Trade Council Name

Millville, N.J. (August 28, 2009) -
New Jersey Motorsports Park announced today a partnership with 22 building and construction trade associations that will name the September 11-13 ARCA RE/MAX Series event the South Jersey Building Trades 150.
“We’re happy to complete a formal partnership surrounding the ARCA RE/MAX Series race, but the relationship between the Building Trades Council and New Jersey Motorsports Park started way before the South Jersey Building Trades 150,” said Will Pauls, President of the South Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO. “We, as a group, worked hard to help get the Park approved. We went to a lot of meetings with the Planning Boards, and worked closely through the development to help get government involved at the state and local levels. A lot of hard work went into that. In turn, when the place was being built, they put our members to work. It’s been a team effort all along.”
The initial agreement is a one-year partnership, but both organizations have an eye on a long-term relationship.
“The South Jersey Building Trades 150 is just a part of a journey that began many years ago, when these same trade organizations were helping New Jersey Motorsports Park get its start,” said Don Fauerbach, Corporate and Community Affairs Officer for New Jersey Motorsports Park. “This partnership will go a long way to making the annual ARCA RE/MAX Series stop one of the top events on the series schedule.”
In addition to the event entitlement, individual members of each of the 22 building trades will have an opportunity take parade laps around the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway at the conclusion of racing activities on Saturday. Select members will be chosen to be honorary pit crew members for ARCA RE/MAX teams during the South Jersey Building Trades 150. The South Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council will name a Grand Marshal for the South Jersey Building Trades 150.
On Friday night, each of the 22 trades will enter one member into the South Jersey Building and Construction Trades Karting Challenge. The Karting Challenge race will take place in the arrive-and-drive karts available at F1 New Jersey, the world-class karting track at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
“These activities were the selling points to our membership,” Pauls said. “A lot of them are into cars and cycles. We have a lot of racers right in the Cumberland County area. It’s a big sport, and everybody is into it. The hard part in making this deal work was the cooperation of all of our trade groups. For us to come together 100% was far from what I expected. But this group, when you ask them to help out with community events, usually comes together.”
The South Jersey Building and Construction Trades Council includes the Asbestos Workers Local 89, Boilermakers Local 28, BAC Local 2 NJ and 5 NJ, Cement Masons Local 592, IBEW Local 351, Elevator Constructors Local 5, Glaziers Local 252, Ironworkers Local 350, LIUNA Local 172 and Local 415, Operating Engineers Local 825, Painters District Council 711, Plasterers Local 8, Plumbers and Fitters Local 322, Roofers and Waterproofers Local 30, Sheet Metal Workers Local 27 and Local 19, Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, Tapers Local 1976, Teamsters Local 331, and Tile, Marble & Terrazzo Local 7.
